Pet Requirements

current Rabies vaccine

One critical step in safeguarding your pet’s health is getting them vaccinated against rabies. The rabies vaccine is not only important for your dog’s safety but also for the protection of your entire family and the community.

Rabies is a viral disease that affects the central nervous system of mammals, including dogs and humans. It is primarily transmitted through the bite of an infected animal, with wildlife such as bats, raccoons, skunks, and foxes being common carriers. Rabies is not only a serious and often fatal illness for animals but also poses a significant risk to human health. Rabies vaccine is currently required by state and local government for pets 4 months of age and older.

DOGWOOD CRITTER CARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDS VACCINATING AGAINST DISTEMPER/PARVO AND BORDETELLA IN ADDITION TO RABIES

Must be at least 4 months old

This requirement ensures that puppies are old enough to handle the physical demands of walking and have received the necessary vaccinations.

Behavior and Temperament

Dogs must demonstrate appropriate behavior and temperament for being walked by a professional. They should be well-socialized, non-aggressive, and comfortable around other dogs*, people, and various environments.

*We do walk reactive dogs and nervous dogs but these dogs are considered on a case by case basis.

basic Leash manners

Dogs should be properly leash trained, comfortable walking on a leash, and responsive to basic commands. This ensures the safety of the dog, the dog walker, and others in the vicinity during walks. We are not looking for perfection but we also need to keep the dog and the dog walker safe.

Collar or Harness

Dogs should wear a secure collar or harness with identification tags displaying their name and contact information. This is essential in case the dog were to accidentally get loose during the walk.

Health Conditions Disclosed

Dogs with significant health conditions that may limit their ability to participate in walks or pose a risk to themselves or others may not be eligible for regular dog walking services. It is important to disclose any health concerns or limitations to the dog walker for assessment and consideration.
