Dog Walking FAQs

Will I have the same walker each day?

We try to keep it consistent but you will not always have the same walker.

How long are the walks?

The visits are 20-25 mins for standard walks and 50-55 minutes for extended walks. We can customize adventure hikes to the duration of your choosing.

When can I schedule a walk?

Our normal walking hours are M-F between 9 am. and 5 p.m. However, if you are in need of a walk after 5 p.m. or on a weekend don’t hesitate to ask. We will always do our best to accommodate after hours walks.

How far in advance do I need to schedule dog walks?

If you know the days you will need walks, please let us know in advance. However, we understand that things come up and you may need a walk last minute, and we can cover that, too.

It is best if you can give us at least 48 hours notice so we can coordinate with your walker and get you set up.

We can sometimes accommodate same-day requests, but it is best to book in advance. This is especially the case during our busiest times.

What is your cancelation policy for walks?

If you need to cancel a visit within 24 hours, calling or texting the office will work the best. You will get an email notification when your visit has been canceled, and any necessary credit will be added onto your account. If your sitter is already on the way to your visit or they are already at your home, no credit will be issued.

  • 0-4 hours before the start of service: no credit will be issued.
  • 4-12 hours before the start of service: we will place a partial credit of 50% on your account that you can use for future bookings within one year.
  • 12+ hours before the start of service: we will place a credit on your account that you can use for future bookings within one year.
Can you walk reactive dogs?

Yes! We work with dog reactive dogs on a regular basis. Dogwood Critter Care is owned and operated by a CPDT-KA (certified professional dog trainer- knowledge assessed)! Our team is trained in best practices for handling dogs of all types.

Can you do an off-leash walk?

We cannot offer off leash walks unless it is on the pet owner’s property and even then due to potential liability it is assessed on a case by case basis.

How much does it cost for a walk?

Overnight FAQ

How long are overnight stays?

Overnight stay durations vary based on package but range from 10 hours, 12 hours, 16 hours, and 22 hours. All overnights include 1 drop in visit during the day except the 22 hour overnight. Read more here!

Where does my sitter sleep?

The sitter can sleep wherever you are comfortable with them sleeping, but we often recommend that the sitter sleep in the room your animals are most accustomed to. The sitter can sleep in your bed, in a guest room or on a comfortable couch. Some animals do not mind where your sitter sleeps, but if you have a dog or a cat that has a specific routine, you should consider sticking with the normal bedroom.

Some clients will wash the sheets before leaving, especially for longer trips. Then the sitter will wash the sheets before you return.

Will I have the same sitter every time?

You will have the same overnight sitter throughout the duration of your trip, we try to keep our sitters with pets they are most familiar with, but that cannot always be accomodated from one vacation to the next.
